Obituary

Jarvis Amos, 89, was a devoted husband, devout Catholic, father and grandfather. He passed to the kingdom of heaven late on December 18 surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Rutan, and mother Jewel, sister Joyce, brother Jay Wayne, and grandson Jared Blesener. He is survived by his wife Yvonne; his sister Janice; four sons, Gerard, John, Michael, and Daniel; 6 daughters, Therese Amos, Nancy Rathjen, Virginia Blesener, Joanna Amos, Martha Jacobson, and Sharon Amos; 4 sons in-law, Peter N. Steinmetz, Tom Blessener, Tim Knox, and Gary Jacobsen; 1 daughter in-law, Sheila Amos; and 7 grandchildren, Kyle Blessener, Rachel Rathjen, Melissa Rathjen, Nathaniel Amos, Tycho Steinmetz, Eliza Amos, and Natalie Amos.

Jarvis served in the merchant marine and was Sargent in the Air Force during the Korean War, making weather observations in England and the US. On returning to California, he became a technical illustrator and worked for Lockheed and Douglas Aircraft Corporations. Among other duties, he provided technical drawings for the Apollo spacecraft. He subsequently worked for a food bank. Outside of work, he enjoyed reading, being with his family, and service to the church.
