Obituary

Genaro Cubedo Dorame, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Genaro was born in Hayden Junction, Arizona where he also attended grade school. After graduating from Hayden High School, he started working at ASARCO as a chemist, and without a college degree, he moved into various engineering positions and retired as Department Superintendent of the Oxygen and Water Treatment Plants.

After returning from World War II, he married the love of his life, Vera, whom he met when he was 15 and she was 13. They began their married life in Winkelman, then lived in Kearny, retired in Sun City Rancho Vistoso in Oro Valley, and later moved to Mesa.

Genaro had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. This led him to his diverse accomplishments including building his family home brick by brick, starting a photography business, silversmithing/jewelry making, and wood carving. His concern for a healthy lifestyle also led him to become an avid daily jogger well into his 80’s.

His contributions to his community included bringing the Boy Scout organization to the Hispanic community in Winkelman, serving on the Hayden High School Board of Trustees, and serving on the Santa Catalina Catholic Church building committee in Tucson.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 74 years, Vera, his brother Rey (Maria Elena) Dorame, 2 daughters, Olivia (Richard) Dorame-Goodridge, Christine (Robert) Dorame Barriga, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fidencio and Angela Dorame, his sister, Catalina (Arnold) Moreno, and daughter Lilia (Gary) Underwood who passed away hours before he did.

Nothing meant more to Genaro than the love he had for his wife and his family. He always reminded his family that “The Best is Yet to Come.” On Sunday, March 22 he lived out his motto as he entered into eternal life with his Heavenly Father.

Due to the current COVID 19 regulations, we are limited to a very small portion of the immediate family being able to be present at the Rosary, Mass, and internment. We know you understand and ask that you continue to keep Genaro and his family in your prayers.
