Elmer M. Bittner, of Mesa, AZ, passed away at 11:58PM on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the age of 96. His passing was peaceful with members of his family in attendance.
Elmer was born in Cavalier County, North Dakota, on November 1st, 1922, to John A. Bittner & Mary (Gartner) Bittner. He was educated in local schools and graduated from high school in Munich, ND.
He farmed with his father until 1949, when he went to work for the Soil Conservations Service, a branch of the Department of Agriculture. He spent the next 30 years of his life with this department until his retirement in 1979. Even though officially retired, he was employed by the Knights Of Columbus as a field insurance agent, again retiring after some ten years of service. At his time, Elmer & De Loris moved to Mesa, Arizona, where he lived and worked at various activities until his passing.
Elmer was very passionate about these issues his entire life. His family, his faith, church and the Knights Columbus fraternal organization. He held various State offices with the KofC program and was both a lector & Eucharistic Minister to the home bound for over 30 years.
Elmer met the love of his life in 1945, and was married on October 8, 1946, to DeLoris Charbonneau of Langdon, ND. They were married 72 years as of October 8, 2018. He is survived by De Loris, three sons and one daughter. John Bittner & Barbara of Round Rock, TX; Roger Bittner of Apache Junction, AZ; Doug Bittner & Ellen of Shakopee, MN, and Lori & Dwight Baker of Mesa, AZ. Elmer also has two brothers, Kenneth Bittner & Josie of Minot, ND., and Leo Bittner & Lillian of Devils Lake, ND. Two grandsons, three granddaughters, two great granddaughters & two great grandsons also survive Elmer.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, son Gregory Bittner; brother Alvin Bittner & wife Catherine; sister Helen Bittner Schottenbauer & her husband Nick, daughters-in law, Dorothy Kasperick Bittner and Linda Scott Bittner, and baby grandson Dwight Baker IV.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at 10:30AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1244 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206 with a light lunch to follow. Inurnment is scheduled for 1:45PM on the same day, at the Queen Of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1562 E. baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85204
